What is Sadaqah Jariyah?

The Sadaqah meaning is to give charity voluntarily. Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah are different. The former means to donate to a short-term cause, such as giving to a food bank or providing clothing to a homeless person. These are both essential causes and alleviate the hardship of a person in need, but the reprieve is temporary. 

Sadaqah Jariyah is a long-term charitable donation. This could be donating to our water appeal or our education programme, or it could be sponsoring an orphaned child. The beneficiaries of these appeals will continue to reap the rewards of your donation long into the future, and Allah (SWT) will attribute you with continuous rewards as a result. 

What Counts as Sadaqah Jariyah?

There are numerous ways you can give Sadaqah Jariyah, with one of the most effective ways being to sponsor an orphaned child. This is counted as Sadaqah Jariyah because through sponsorship, you are giving a child a stable and safe environment in which to grow up, the effects of which will go a long way to shaping their future. 

If you donate to our water charity appeal, you will be able to improve and even save the lives of countless communities for generations to come. Our water pumps provide clean drinking water which eradicates the risk of disease and death as a consequence. On top of this, girls and women do not need to undertake long and dangerous journeys to find a water source, therefore improving their quality of life further. 

Education is the most powerful tool and is the stepping stone to a more prosperous life. When you donate to our education programme, you are giving vulnerable children facing hardship the opportunity to escape the cycle of poverty and build a bright future for themselves and their community. Education never stops benefitting the recipient, qualifying our programme as an act of Sadaqah Jariyah.
