Zakat is an integral part of Islam and it is due on all Muslims who meet the nisab threshold. The nisab threshold fluctuates based on the value of silver and gold and your personal wealth after one lunar year. Working out how much Zakat you owe can be confusing, to say the least.
To make the process easier for you, we have created a Zakat calculator that you can use to work out how much you need to pay. All you need to do is enter how much (if any) gold and silver you have accumulated over the past lunar year and how much it is worth. You can choose to base your Zakat on the value of gold or silver, with silver typically being cheaper, but gold ensuring more people can be helped via your donation.
You then need to enter how much money you have in stocks, investments, bank accounts and cash, as well as your yearly outgoings. For a more comprehensive guide on what items and money is not to be included in your Zakat calculation, please see our Zakat facts guide.
Once you’ve entered all your information into the calculator, it will tell you how much – if any – Zakat you need to pay. Not everyone will be eligible, so if the total is zero, it has been deemed that you don’t have enough excess wealth to pay Zakat this year.
