Meet Aunt Soraya

Aunt Soraya is an elderly woman from Gaza who was diagnosed with cancer growing behind her eye. To save her life, surgeons removed the eye, removed tissue from the socket and performed a skin graft using skin from her wrist.

Although the cancer was treated, her suffering did not end.

“I don't know which pain to focus on. I'm just in pain all the time.”

Living with constant pain

Today she wears an eye patch while her wrist continues to heal, and she lives with pain in both places at once.

She was evacuated from Gaza to Egypt for treatment and remains far from the home and family she knew.

What she needs now

Your donation helps fund a prosthetic eye, proper pain management and the follow-up care she needs to live with dignity.

Why your donation matters

Aunt Soraya survived cancer and survived a war. She should not have to spend what is left of her life in constant pain.

A relatively modest amount restores her comfort, her appearance and her dignity.

Any additional donations received for this individual, or funds remaining once their treatment is complete, will be used to support other medical evacuees within the Mercy Shifaa Fund or similar charitable projects at ILM UK's discretion.
